Elena Waller speaks with George Alger about the California Oil Museum in Santa Paula, CA.

In 1950, the building was established as a museum: specifically, the Union Oil Museum. In 1990 the name was changed to the California Oil Museum. However, the building itself dates back to 1890 and is historically significant as the birthplace of the Union Oil Company.

Exhibits at the California Oil Museum include oil and gas industry equipment, such as an 1890’s iron and timber operating drilling rig, historic gas pumps and product containers, a recreated 1890’s period Union Oil Company corporate headquarters office, and a 1930’s period apartment.
